As the summer season gently winds down, the anticipation of a new school year stirs up a mix of emotions, both exciting and nerve-wracking. We all know that going back to school can be a time of high emotions and stress for everyone, including students, parents, and teachers. The school bells ring, and the hallways come back to life. Cornerstone's Clothing Bank, Etc. was there to help ease some of the financial challenges that come with getting ready for school.
Cornerstone hosted its 9th Annual Backpack and School Supplies event for students getting ready for school this fall. We provided backpacks for students from kindergarten to high school seniors. The event took place on August 11th, 12th, 13th, 19th, and various other days over the following two weeks. During this time, we gave out a total of 300 backpacks filled with school supplies, valued at $13,500. We also provided 4,396 pieces of school clothes and sneakers. Each student had the chance to pick out two complete outfits, a pair of sneakers, underwear, and socks. We even had some fall jackets, purses, and other items available.
This was our biggest giveaway yet, and everything was provided for free. Our main goal was to help students start the new school year on a positive note by giving them everything they needed. We were met with excitement from the young people, their parents, and even some grandparents.
The success of this event was made possible by donations from Thrivent Financial, Vernon Congregational Church of Vernon, LuAnn's Bakery & Cafe, Flat Pennies Kitchen, Bianna's Pizza, Urban Alliance, Opportunity Works, Walmart, a Mom's Club, a Girl Scout drive, the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective, Manchester Emblem Club #251 and individuals who bought items from our Amazon wish list, the Clothing Bank volunteers, and many others. It was heartwarming to see how much the community cares about its young people and how they came together to make this event a success. We extend our sincere thanks to all the donors and volunteers who did a fantastic job at this event.
Looking ahead, our next event is The Halloween Boutique, which will be open on October 12th, 13th, 19th, and 20th from 4-7 pm. We have a wide variety of costumes for both kids and adults. Please note that children must be present to select their costumes.
We are excited about the enthusiasm of parents, children, and the larger community who take part in our various events throughout the year, including the Back to School and Supplies Event, The Halloween Boutique, The Christmas Corner, Children's Christmas party at St. Bernard's Church, and The Prom Boutique. It's our pleasure at Cornerstone to be able to help with these events and provide everything for free so that everyone can join in the fun.
