Warm Wishes and Winter Preparedness: Cornerstone's December Update

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! Here at Cornerstone, we are gearing up for one of the busiest months in our calendar. Not only do we have all the holiday related events - our Christmas boutique, our Christmas party for the kiddos, Scrooge Scramble on Christmas Day- but December 1st kicks off the Winter Warming Season.

What is Winter Warming you might ask? This is the time of year when we expand our shelter services from December to March to ensure that no one must be outside during the cold winter nights. Our three shelters are the only ones in all of Tolland County and our Family Triage (short term emergency) is the only one in Tolland and Hartford Counties. We will have a full house all winter.

We are so very fortunate that support from our community has enabled us to ensure that no families are currently unsheltered, and that families and adults are getting hot food, groceries, and warm clothing to make it through the winter. We are also deeply appreciative of everyone who has responded to our Santa’s Wish List on Amazon and bought items on the list. Our shelter staff, especially Shelter Director, Jenn Kirchmeier, work hard every year to make sure our shelter residents have the best possible holiday experience.

As you know, we celebrated 40 years of offering food, shelter, and clothing at no cost in 2023 and we could not have done it without the generous donations of time and monies from our supporters. However, I wouldn’t be a good Executive Director if I didn’t put in one last request for you to think about Cornerstone when you do your year-end giving!

Peace, Joy, and Love from all of us at Cornerstone,

Sharon Redfern

Executive Director
