April is Volunteer Appreciation Month!

Updated: Apr 2

There is always so much positive activity going on at Cornerstone, and our mission has expanded so much over its 40-year history. Each of our missions is blessed with many volunteers who compassionately toil to assist us in serving the ever-increasing needs of our community.

We have regularly scheduled tasks on certain days of the week or month, and we also have special projects that happen occasionally. There are so many ways to join us in caring for others.

We dedicate a lot of our efforts to assist those that need Community Service hours either based on school requirements, Court-ordered service hours, and other volunteer hours requirements from people seeking degrees, or clubs and organizations having work days.

While most of our volunteer efforts take place in-person, in and around the Cornerstone Campus in Rockville, we have other ways that your efforts could assist us.

With the acceptance of tele-meetings on computers and cell phones, you could work from home and still help us make a significant difference in the lives of others. You could be local or live anywhere in the world and help us! For instance, we need more volunteers to help us follow up with some of the seniors and others in need of more contact. Your cheerful phone call to someone, can have a tremendous positive effect on others!

We are looking for people who are interested in doing research for us, helping us advocate for improvements within the existing “System,” help us write articles, pretty much anything that you are interested in, we could use your help.

Our hope has always been to serve people where they are in their life, but to then give them the necessary tools and start them out with the resources they need to improve their lives and the lives of their households.

One of our most joyful moments is when someone that we are helping, gets to a point in their lives where they begin to help others! The circle becomes complete!

Folks, we’re all in this together, and the joy and compassion we share with others can make a difference in their lives. Help us care for others. As the saying goes, “love is something, that the more you give away, the more you get!”

Be the light in someone’s dark life, and you can help change the world for the better!

I leave you with these passages from the Good Book:

1 John 3:17-18 - But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth

Deuteronomy 15:11 - For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land

Galatians 5:14 - For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Zechariah 7:9-10 - “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”
