Forty years ago, The Cornerstone Foundation, Inc, was incorporated. A few years earlier, Helen Syriac started a shelter in the Sacred Heart Church library. Helen was moved to do so after the death of a young man she had been trying to help and was frustrated by how little she could do. The shelter was housed in churches until 1988 when Cornerstone purchased 15 Prospect Street as a shelter and started the Community Kitchen on the first floor.
Throughout the years Cornerstone has grown to include two shelters, the Community Kitchen, the Clothing Bank, Etc, a Food Cupboard and the Diaper Bank. All these endeavors have been accomplished through the faith and persistence of our founder, Helen, and her ability to inspire the community to volunteer and support the mission of Cornerstone.
We invite you to come and celebrate our official 40th anniversary year on October 20th at the Apostolic Christian Church, 34 Middle Butcher Road, Ellington, CT from 6pm-8pm in the
Fellowship Hall behind the church.
The local community has been an integral part of our growth and our ability to provide shelter, food and clothing for those who are struggling to keep their family surviving. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with the people who have been a part of our 40-year success!
If you want to join in the celebration, please RSVP below by October 13th .
We hope you will come and celebrate this joyous occasion!
